Inspired April Art Night Out Classes

Check out our April Art Night Out® schedule! We have been inspired by all of the new ideas Catherine brought back from her exciting trip to the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) show this year.  At the CHA show artists from around the world gather to share ideas and inspiration. Artascope Studios founder Catherine Bickford went to the CHA and the Gem Show in Tucson, AZ and learned about new materials and techniques that now we get to incorporate into classes at Artascope this spring.

Art Night Out® classes are all about personalization and showing the world how exceptionally unique we are. This April you can learn how to use collage to make personally meaningful art in the Collage Resin Pendant class. Or create a story with a necklace that will be 100% yours as you learn wire working techniques and add charms, findings and beads. Personalize your cell phone or i-pod with the felted cover, or create your own rubber stamps and make everything from your grocery list to party invitations personalized with your own seal. Check out the whole list of Art Night Out® classes start to personalize your life!

Some of the the national artists that Catherine met at the CHA show are coming to Maine and you can take Art Escape® classes from them at Artascope this year. Donna Downey comes in June to teach “Simply Irresistible Surfaces”,  in September Claudine Hellmuth teaches “Beeswax Collage” and Catherine Matthews-Scanlon teaches “Sewn Paper Cards” in November. There are Art Escape® classes every month with great teachers, like Gina Lee Kim’s Watercolor Class in the Summer and Fall, and Bethany Haeseler teaching “Stained Glass with Fusing Techniques” this April. Visit the Art Escape® website to see all of the classes!

April Showers and YOU Made Paper Flowers!

Saturday, April 11th was a little dark and dreary, and as most days in April go, it rained!  Rain or Shine, we still opened our doors for anyone to come on in and learn the funky art of creating Paper Flowers!

Many folks were intriguied by the making of Paper Flowers!  Create a stunning bouqet out of your favorite colors or even to match your home decor!  We brought out our fantastic collection of paper bins, overflowing with great textures, colors and patterns!  No one can resist digging in to find their treasure!

Paper Flowers are one of our favorite things to share!  We hope to have another Open House to make more of these simple and beautiful flowers!  If you missed the event, or want to make more, we do have kits available with everything you need to make your own colorful bouquet!

Join us for our next Open House, Church of Craft event!  Saturday May 9th from 10am to 1pm and make Mom a special Mother’s Day card, filled with love- and, of course, made by YOU!

Craft and Hobby Association Tradeshow Roundup

Catherine Bickford’s Chicago Adventure:
We take great pride in offering fantastic Art and Craft supplies at our Artascope Studio store in South Portland. We are always looking for the newest items to bring to our customers and add to our extensive class offerings.

Last week our founder Catherine Bickford flew to Chicago to attend the Craft and Hobby Asscociation (CHA for short) tradeshow. It was a jam packed 48 hours scanning hundreds of vendors for things that really caught her eye….the must haves! Her adventure even included a class with collage artist Claudine Hellmuth. We have several books by Claudine available in our store and we will be carrying her new line of acrylics paints in the fall. Catherine commented that is was a real treat to meet Claudine! Sounds like an adventure and we look forward to showing you our new inventory when you stop in for a visit.
