One-Day Painting Workshops with Bobbi Heath

Join us at our new location in Yarmouth for enlightening and relaxing one-day workshops that will explore how quick small paintings can be a rewarding way to improve your painting skills. Bobbi Heath will explain techniques, materials, and a practical approach to painting daily, and will also teach you how to find time to paint regularly.  The workshop will consist of exercises focused on creating a finished painting in a short session and having fun doing it. Bobbi will demonstrate techniques that will help you get the most out of your painting time and discuss subjects and reference materials particularly suited to daily painting.

Bobbi Heath studied drawing and painting with Maine artists Suzanne Harden and Tina Ingraham. She’s attended numerous workshops, particularly enjoying those with Scott Christensen, Colin Page, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, and Marc Hanson. Bobbi paints in oils, and teaches a “Daily Painting” workshop at River Arts, in Damariscotta. Her work includes landscapes of her favorite coastal haunts in Maine, travel destinations elsewhere in the US and Europe, and paintings of still life subjects. Bobbi regularly exhibits at Yarmouth Frame and Gallery in Yarmouth, ME, River Arts in Damariscotta, ME, and the Concord Art Association in Concord, MA. She also participates in plein air events across New England.

Artist Statement:

For me painting is largely about nature and the ways we enjoy it. I find the most inspiring examples on the coast of Maine and the activities we engage in there. Boating, hiking, and cooking native specialties all inspire me. Painting en plein air (in the outdoors) is my way of getting to know a new place, and I enjoy doing that in my travels around the US and Europe. What I hope you see in my work is a wonderful reminder of somewhere you’ve been, a day that was perfect, or perhaps an enticement to find this beautiful spot and make it part of your own memories.

Inspired April Art Night Out Classes

Check out our April Art Night Out® schedule! We have been inspired by all of the new ideas Catherine brought back from her exciting trip to the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) show this year.  At the CHA show artists from around the world gather to share ideas and inspiration. Artascope Studios founder Catherine Bickford went to the CHA and the Gem Show in Tucson, AZ and learned about new materials and techniques that now we get to incorporate into classes at Artascope this spring.

Image Transfer Inspires

As a photography major in college, I love any old skool photo process. I miss the darkroom but I have moved on and my trying to love the digital world of photo. But when Art Night Out brings back the polaroid transfer class, I get really excited! It’s a nice little mix of old and new and the results are always thrilling!

Our Image Transfer class was held this past Thursday! This class focuses primarily on polaroid image transfers (yes, even tho Polaroid itself is going out of business, there still is Fuji and maybe others…) with a demo in emulsion lifts (which are fabulously cool to watch and do!)

Maggie, one of our long time teachers, brought her Day Lab machines to use for the process, as well as countless books, samples and knowledge. Our students, Deb, Wendy and Zarra were excited and fascinated by the process. They worked from old photographs, digital prints and even collage and magazine images. Using different types of hot and cold press papers and even fabric, they were able to yield different results!

Image Transfers with the Day Lab machines are great because you can print multiples of the same image. The magic of polaroid, however, ensure no two images will EVER be alike. The quality of the transferred images are quite vintage and bring a whole new life to the original images.

Interested in learning about this process? Check back for our fall schedule or book a private lesson or party with Maggie! This class as a private party for a milestone celebration would be spectacular! Have friends or family bring in special photos and learn this magical process! Contact the studio for more information!

ArtEscape Weekend Review-Stained Glass Superstars

ArtEscape! Weekend- Stained Glass Student Highlight
Every third weekend of the month, we offer a 3 day artist retreat called the ArtEscape! at Artascope Studios. Gayle Raposa, our stained glass guru recently ran a fabulous Stained Glass weekend. Here are some amazing images from our recent member, Garrett, who joined the studio after taking this ArtEscape Stained Glass weekends! Her final piece was inspired by a sculpture she saw while in Spain. After many hours cutting, grinding and fitting together this intricate and very ambitious stained glass panel, the result was spectacular! Garrett had never touched stained glass before and did not consider herself all that “crafty”, but she made believers out of us! Can’t wait to see what’s next for Garrett now that she has full access to our studios. The options are endless.

Summer Keepsake Box
Gayle was back in the studio teaching The Summer Keepsake Box class as part of our Art Night Out Series a few weeks later. Students has a chance to play with treasures from the sea that they would encapsulate into a stained glass box for all to see. What a great idea! I love thinking of staring into my little slice of summer bliss on those chilly winter nights and dreaming of the seasons to come.
